You saw the post where I was idly researching one of those as a what if, or is this coincidence?

no not at all. It was all Jamie Kitmans fault this morning for posting a picture of a Matra Djet on facebook. And the gears started turning

http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/le-mardi-de-ma… was the other day, and I mused on the possibilities of getting one. If we're this much in sync we need to form a crime syndicate.

Every damn time I wind up wanting one.

That's almost disturbing, but it's only disturbing as long as we can't turn it to our advantage.

We could be the next ICON, just with even cooler but weirder shit

Bear in mind though that it's just one of these tarted up:

I wanted one of these in red when I was a kid. Something about just really stood out and made me want it.

Oh I know it is, but it is a good platform reengineer into something that lives up to its looks

These things are so much cooler in person than in photos. I didn't think there were any in the US!

Or a 4000Q drivetrain with locking diffs and a flashed 2.0TDI. 300lb/ft, 35-40mpg all day, go anywhere. Damn. Tell you what, I already have the stripped 4000Q that's otherwise useless, AND a high mileage 2009 2.0TDI core out back that was replaced last month when the injection pump failed, but ran. You buy the Rancho and I'll donate them to the cause, and we'll have a kickass little "marketing" truck for our brewpub/classic car importer/brokership. Cool car, tax writeoff, beer, brilliant.

Looks exactly like this one. Somewhere in the attic. I still have every dinky car I had as a kid...being a car guy, I couldn't bear to part with them, haha! I've got a Corgi dinky Citroën Dyane somewhere as well, and I can think of a few Peugeot 106 and 205s up there as well...
![]() 04/10/2015 at 14:50 |

good lord. I never got the dinkys, just matchbox. I think that is what is wrong with me, all the lead paint I used to get off them when I was 2
I think you need to go check what is up there and take pictures for us. And then become an author on oppo

Oh buddy, you are bringing back some long-dormant epic childhood memories my friend, haha! I'm almost 30 now! :P
Seriously, I probably have at least 200 of them, not including my brothers...Hot Wheels, Majorette, Matchbox, Corgi, Maisto.....you name it. Last I saw them, they were boxed up in about 3 boxes (the kind packages of normal printer paper come in), each with at least 3 layers of bristol board in them holding the cars.
We used to have a dinky car COUNTY (unofficial, made out of various things, haha!) set up in an unfinished room in our basement of the house we grew up in. We had a big house...think a room double the size of your average living room, but the entire floor was an entire county of toy cars. My brother and I are twins (fraternal), so we each used to have our own city on each side of the room and a "county line" in between. Many epic Dukes of Hazard-style car chases took place! Also, a shady criminal underworld where we would steal cars from each others cities when each other wasn't looking, find out later, and then have to do cross-border police searches to find them! We had a highway running between the cities out into the wilderness where the military bases were (long stripes if black bristolboard with white lines drawn down the middle), functioning railway lines (our HO scale trains), a National Park, a raceway ( the old-school Matchbox Days of Thunder playset ), a seaport/container pier out near the raceway, truck stops , a construction site , at least 4 car dealerships (new and used of course!), including a "concept car dealership" in MY city, HELL, we had a frickin' BLIMP PORT ....if you are a boy growing up that loves cars, it was THE BOMB. We had every one of these sets , except 7702, the 7400 series, 7204, and 7203, which included farms, a hospital, a fire station, a restaurant and garages/dealerships. We also had every one of the city kits on the left here - 7352 was my Police impound yard!
I wish I could find a picture of it...most of the cars (my favorites :) ) that sat in the "driveway" of "my house" in MY city are all sitting on shelf upstairs, nostalgia ahoy!
Good times! :D We had overactive imaginations...haha! There are so many cars I either know today from that place, or so many cars I've re-seen over the years and said "I KNOW THAT CAR, I HAVE ONE OF THOSE!"
Definitely helped cement my love for all things with wheels and an engine, I doubt I would be here today if it weren't for that room, no word of a lie! :)
